Los Angeles Engagement Photography At Home {Anikah + Mark : Engaged}

04.24.15  |  engagements

I'm so excited for Anikah and Mark's wedding at Descanso Gardens tomorrow! Here's a look at their engagement session that I recently shot at their beautiful home. I truly enjoy shooting people in their home. A home provides the best backdrop, in my opinion, because our home houses not only our things but our lives and, in turn, our memories and the energy created through our relationships.

Never will you find more kind, authentic, and loving people than Anikah and Mark. I'm so excited for them! Please join me in wishing them a wonderful wedding day tomorrow!

Lifestyle and Editorial Kids and Family Photographer {Andrews Family in the SNOW!!!}

02.03.15  |  portraits

Well, hello there blog! It's been a while. Happy New Year (in February). We'll try to do some catching up on weddings, portraits, and personal stuff as time progresses. There's no better way to start "catching up" than by posting this Mammoth Mountain family snow shoot!!! We had such a great time playing in the snow and enjoying the pretty light, reflecting snow and the clear, crisp mountain air. (Oh, and these faces... these faces allowed me to not worry in the slightest about my not quite water proof Ugg boots in a few feet of snow. :-/ This California girl might need to upgrade into some better snow shoes. ;))

I have a very warm place in my heart for this family and I hope that shows in their pictures. I'm so glad that we were able to capture them having fun and exploring in this beautiful wondrous environment.

I'm looking forward to shooting more family adventure shoots. Think of it like Naked and Afraid but for an hour or so, with clothes, your favorite people, exploring and doing super fun things... OK... it's nothing like Naked and Afraid. Instead, think of it like Together and Happy. How about that? Together and Happy Exploration Shoots... that has a pretty nice ring to it. Where would you and your family like to explore together?

I'll stop rambling now and get on to the good stuff. Enjoy!

Palm Springs Wedding Photography : Alexis + Manuel {Viceroy Wedding : Part Four}

10.30.14  |  weddings

And, here is the final post of Alexis and Manuel's wedding coupled with some words from Alexis on the planning and some reflections.

Design Inspiration
"My other style co-conspirator was my mom, Heidi, who owns a fabric store in Las Vegas, Heddy's Fabrics (that was opened my grandmother in 1966!).  Mom had beautiful custom runners made with gold-accented trim for the tables and oodles of sheer, white drapes made for the ceremony backdrop and entryways.  We spray-painted a dozen or so accent vases and our table numbers gold to stand off the black table runners and rented gold flatware from Casa de Perrin to finish the look.  Joey Lizotte and his awesome team at Artisan Events (they handled all floral, lighting and day-of coordination) made everything come together with desert-sturdy arrangements of mostly white blooms with pops of fuchsia in the gold vases.  I'm sure about three people noticed all of this hard work and effort but when I saw the tables for the first time, my jaw dropped...it was so beautiful."

Reflections
"After so many months of planning, imagining and -- frankly -- worrying about our wedding day, everything was smooth, relaxed, happy and beautiful.  As everyone says, it goes by WAY too quickly.  I'll reiterate a familiar sentiment:  splurge on an awesome photographer (as we did!  Thanks, Natalie!!!) who gets your style and vibe and is a nice person.  The day rushes by so quickly that you NEED all those fantastic photos to remind you of every little detail: everyone's faces as they were on this day, the shine in your husbands eyes, the way you couldn't stop smiling (except for when you were crying like a baby...okay, maybe that one is just me).  Also, rather late in the process we decided to hire a videographer.  I really debated this one (do we really need this?  isn't it kind of self-indulgent?).  I am SO glad we decided to hire Marlor and his team.  I had no idea how much we (and our family and friends) would love our highlight video. My dad recently told me that whenever Manuel and I get in a fight, we should just watch our wedding video and it will fix everything.  Haha...thanks, Dad, the relationship guru!  (check our highlight video here: http://vimeo.com/91383683)"

Palm Springs Wedding Photography : Alexis + Manuel // Viceroy Wedding : Part Two}

10.28.14  |  weddings

Part two of Alexis and Manuel's wedding at the Viceroy Palm Springs features their touching ceremony and some fun group portraits. I loved Alexis's modern minimalist vibe that worked perfectly at the Viceroy. Here are some words from Alexis about the selection of their venue and the style and design inspiration for their wedding.

The Style (Design Inspiration)
"The beginning steps of the wedding-planning process were completely overwhelming to me. We adore San Francisco (our home) so we looked for venues in SF but nothing seemed to fit just right with our style, budget and "must-have" requirements.  I love the look of Palm Springs weddings and the predictability of the *perfect* fall weather there.  Since most of my family is in Las Vegas, most of Manuel's family is in the Bay Area and we have many friends in Southern California, we figured Palm Springs was an ideal "destination" wedding somewhere in the middle of it all.

When we looked for venues in Palm Springs, the Viceroy just fit the bill.  The little boutique hotel is intimate, stylish, happy and fun...just as we hoped the wedding to be.  We fell in love with the cozy event spaces, the terracotta roofed bungalows and mature fruit trees all over the property.  The event staff there -- lead by the fantastic Olivia Prescott -- is super on top of everything, extremely helpful, thorough and professional.

I love bold, high-contrast, modern design. When scouring blogs for wedding inspiration I found tons of romantic, soft, rustic, truly gorgeous, enviable weddings...but that style just isn't me.  I went with what felt right -- mainly black and white with pops of fuchsia and gold.  I wanted everything to look simple and clean with a touch of whimsy and humor and fun."

I just love the last one above. What I love about it... The relationship and emotions between Alexis and her dad got me. I love the way the three of their hands are all reaching out... for a final embrace before marriage, for a shoulder to welcome the man his daughter is going to marry, for the hand of his fiance. And I love how they're in the center of the frame, surrounded by people who love them.

You know you're in the era of the smart phone when the vows are contained there. Actually, it was really cute and Manuel's words moved Alexis to tears.

There's nothing like a confetti explosion as the couple walks back down the aisle!

What a great group.

The Brady Bunch set of images below were not my idea but the ever creative Alexis's. They had something like this on their wedding website and wanted to recreate it on the wedding day.

Stay tuned for Alexis and Manuel's desert portraits!
