LIFESTYLE AND EDITORIAL KIDS AND FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER {HOWELL FAMILY MATERNITY SESSION!!!}

10.03.16

Meet four members of the Howell family. Member number five was hiding inside his momma's belly. We'll give him some screen time during his newborn session. We walked through downtown Fullerton and had such a sweet time together.

Family sessions are booking up quickly for October and November with only a few weekend times remaining. I'd love to photograph your family. If you'd love that, too, please click here to get in touch.

Capturing the Wave {Portrait of and Reflection on Grandma On a Wedding Day}

09.21.15

When I first began professionally shooting weddings about ten years ago, I had only a limited appreciation for the intrinsic value of the art that I created for my clients (and for my own family, for that matter). The imprint of a moment frozen in time, the light trailing on the lines of a loved ones face, the silent yet emotion filled image, and a picture that might become part of the family's visual heritage... an heirloom... all of these things are enveloped in this work.

Ten years later, I have witnessed loss, heartache, elation, and so much love all around me. A sea of humanity, a river of emotions, an ebb and flow of life can't really be captured... it keeps going and moves on. However, the rolling of that wave can be viscerally felt in one's memory after it recedes, triggered by a photograph, transported to a memory before it recedes again.

I'm reminded of the value of art, family, life, photography, and stopping to take a breath to let it all in.

"Grandma" This image was created at a recent wedding as the hustle and bustle of "getting ready" was spinning all around her. The matriarch of their family sat calmly, gazing out the window of the hotel room. At 94, who knows what she was thinking as her granddaughter prepared to be married that day. I was drawn to the look in her eyes and the way the light fell on the lines of her beautiful face.

Lifestyle and Editorial Kids and Family Photographer {Andrews Family in the SNOW!!!}

02.03.15

Well, hello there blog! It's been a while. Happy New Year (in February). We'll try to do some catching up on weddings, portraits, and personal stuff as time progresses. There's no better way to start "catching up" than by posting this Mammoth Mountain family snow shoot!!! We had such a great time playing in the snow and enjoying the pretty light, reflecting snow and the clear, crisp mountain air. (Oh, and these faces... these faces allowed me to not worry in the slightest about my not quite water proof Ugg boots in a few feet of snow. :-/ This California girl might need to upgrade into some better snow shoes. ;))

I have a very warm place in my heart for this family and I hope that shows in their pictures. I'm so glad that we were able to capture them having fun and exploring in this beautiful wondrous environment.

I'm looking forward to shooting more family adventure shoots. Think of it like Naked and Afraid but for an hour or so, with clothes, your favorite people, exploring and doing super fun things... OK... it's nothing like Naked and Afraid. Instead, think of it like Together and Happy. How about that? Together and Happy Exploration Shoots... that has a pretty nice ring to it. Where would you and your family like to explore together?

I'll stop rambling now and get on to the good stuff. Enjoy!

"You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them." - Desmond Tutu

The DeNicola family recently welcomed baby Jack into the world. And since that dayt, he has made their family just that much more complete... sometimes you don't know what you're missing until the missing piece arrives and completes the puzzle.

Congratulations DeNicola family!!! He's beautiful and so are all of you. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Much love, Nat
