I have the great pleasure of being a board member of the newly created
McKenna Claire Foundation (note: the website is still getting beautified by the amazing Sarah who has only had a week and a half to work on it and get it ready for prime time... you are awesome my dear... we appreciate your "all nighters").
McKenna lost her battle with pediatric brain cancer in July of this year, only 6 months after receiving her diagnosis. She was just 7 years old. I've been friends with her family for a long time. I love them and I feel like I finally have a way to do something for them. They are truly amazing.
This is a life project... something that I will be proud of helping build when it is my time to leave this earth. It is invigorating, gut wrenching, tiring, and uplifting. I expect to be sharing more things about the foundation as I document them and I hope that you will take some time to learn about Macky, her story, and the mission of the foundation:
"Our purpose is to support causes related to finding a cure for pediatric brain cancer and to celebrate McKennas passion for life by providing others with opportunities to spread their wings and shine. As the foundation grows, it is our hope to not only bring joy to others lives, but to help medical experts discover the path to a cure so that no other family has to suffer a loss such as ours."
We are in the midst of the foundation's creation and today was to be its inaugural gift presentation outside at McKenna's school, Eader Elementary in Huntington Beach. Well, it rained... so that didn't happen... but some of Macky's family and friends still got together before school in their new McKenna Claire Foundation gear. Take a peek... and spread the word.
