03.29.13 | portraits

Note: Please forgive me... this is a long post. It's basically the whole session... I just couldn't help myself. ;)
When a new little person is born into a family the dynamic changes, the family changes, the world changes. What was two becomes three and what was three becomes four. It's a beautiful thing to witness and an exhausting thing to be a part of. I know... I remember. Heck, I'm still in the mix of it-- just a few years out, in fact (my kids are three and five). The anticipation you feel during pregnancy-- of meeting this new little person-- is still fresh and is transformed. Now you've met him, but you're just starting to get to know him, learn his quirks, catch a glimpse of the person he will be, and get a glimmer of the family that his presence will help to create.
It's a time that seems to go by grudgingly slow in the middle of those long sleepless nights but it's also a time that, in contrast, moves by in the blink of an eye that's punctuated with a face full of frosting one year later. Perhaps it's "baby brain," hormones, busyness, and/or a lack of sleep but this important time can be lost if not documented (and it's never going to be repeated). We think to ourselves... "I'm going to remember this..." (mental camera "click") but, well, we don't. It's a blessing for me to be able to bear witness to the newness, the rigors, and the anticipatory beauty that is so raw during this time. These pictures will be a physical reminder of the way things were, of possibility, of the joy of family.
To be fair, the people in this session mean a lot to me and to my family. We love them and send them SO much love and congratulations. (XOXOXOXO)

| {I photograph weddings, passionate people, newborns, kids, and families in my own way. It's not for everybody... but if you feel something when you look at the images I make, if they awaken something in you, if they make you feel a connection or perhaps make you think of the image or series of images as a piece of art, then maybe I'm the photographer for you. Let me know. Oh... and I'm pretty funny, too. For reals. I'd love to meet you.} |

03.08.13 | engagements

First, let me say that I can't wait for Amy and Matt's wedding at Napa Valley's Meadowood. Second, what's up with an 80 degree day in early March?! Oh what a lovely afternoon we had on the (BUSY) beach in Santa Monica! We found some peace and tranquility from the crowds under the pier. I saw the sun peaking through the pillars underneath the pier and knew just where we needed to be. More to come from this lovely couple's session very soon...
Meanwhile, I hope you have a glass of wine tonight in honor of another week in the books and in honor of Amy and Matt's future wine country wedding. Happy Friday!
