Sometimes... things move along swimmingly. Your four-year old and two-year old boys give each other brotherly hugs and kisses that you could melt over. Sometimes... your heart could explode from the sweetness.
Sometimes... kids have tantrums; they have bad days when we they "should" be having good days. Sometimes they are not in the "right" mood for their annual photo shoot (can you imagine?!) ;).
Sometimes we, as moms (myself included), hope beyond hope that the good "sometimes" will happen at the "right" times. We will readily admit that not every day is a bed of familial roses but, in fact, is often a rather thorny bed instead. Still, can't we expect that for just one moment everyone will be in the right frame of mind during our special, pre-planned, I just want one good picture, "sometimes"?
The answer... no.
Sometimes, things just go awry and that's okay. Because, someday, these crazy sometimes will be remembered if not as the best of times at least as sometimes that we'll never get back. The unabashed energy, craziness, uncontrollable (if not always joyful) exuberance, bounding leaps on the bed, tickles that result in fits of laughter and then result in a concurrent tantrum will be replaced with other times... more quiet times... wishing times... times when we'll be reminiscing of those sometimes gone by.
So, sometime today, even in a bad moment find the good. Smile and let your expectations of things go, take mental pictures of these times, and find the little moments in the rough spots. They're there. You just need to be able to step back, take a breath, and take some time to really see them (in the middle of those darned thorns).
Love, Me
