fine art coffee table books [books and albums]

05.28.09  |  client

Deciding on the type of book or album you'd like... flushmount album or our modern fine art coffee table book? Check out the link below to view a little slideshow of the coffee table book from a few different angles.

Fine Art Book Slideshow

The layout of images is printed directly to heavy fine art archival paper stock. (These pages are about 10% thinner than the Flushmount Album pages, which are printed on photo paper and then mounted to the page boards.) One image is printed directly to the wrap around cover and text can be added, as shown, to the cover and the spine. A slip case is an available option as is a leather spine. Note: One of the great things about this book is that there is no gutter down the center of the book allowing for images to span across both sides without any disturbance.

I LOVE these books! They're becoming a more and more popular choice.

and the award goes to... [contest]

...a portrait of Noel and Neal on the train tracks in Orange. Woohoo! This portrait won 11th place in the most recent AGWPJA (Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association) contest.

The judge had this to say... " A very well executed image. The position of the couple and the framing with the tracks is very nicely done... The toning works well here."

jenn + albert : the sh-bang ...part one [wedding | maui]

05.22.09  |  weddings. destination

So, after much ado and some teaser posts... here's part one of the fantastic Maui wedding of Jenn and Albert. Held at the Olowalu Plantation House, the celebration started early and ended late. Studded by beautiful moments, lovely details, and wonderful people, it was my absolute pleasure to capture this beautiful day.

Without further ado... here is part one of Jenn and Albert's wedding. It's a very long post... and I can't believe it's only part one. I just couldn't narrow it down. (What's next? Part two of the wedding including the bulk of Jenn and Albert's portraits, their reception, and then a fantastic Trash the Dress session post, too!) Stay tuned... ;)

Details, details...

The wind picked up just a bit...

Some (many) portraits of Jenn... (actually prior to the wedding ceremony)...

Stay tuned for Albert and Jenn's portraits, their reception, snow cones, and more!!!

Rock to Recovery: benefit concert featuring Social Distortion [part 1]

05.20.09  |  announcements

On the fateful morning of March 2nd, 2009, while surfing the south side of the pier in Huntington Beach our friend, Jay Thomas, suffered a C6 spinal cord injury (SCI) leaving his body limp from the chest down. With the fast acting staff of the Huntington Beach Lifeguards and a fellow fireman in the water, they got Jay to the beach safely and on his way to the hospital. With the help of an amazing medical staff, and after two successful surgeries at UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA, Jay’s injury was determined to be an incomplete spinal cord injury, leaving doctors to be very optimistic of a full recovery. On Friday, March 13, after almost 2 weeks in intensive care, Jay was transferred to The Rehabilitation Center at Long Beach Memorial Hospital where he is currently receiving physical therapy five days a week.

On Monday of this week, a benefit concert was held for Jay at the House of Blues in Anaheim. Rock to Recovery, spearheaded by Shane Trulin, was a collective and very successful effort that resulted in an amazing and uplifting evening. Headlined by Social Distortion along with The Vandals, The Black Tibetans, and Japanese Motors, the night culminated in over $41,000 being raised for Jay and his medical care.

It was a touching and inspiring night and I was honored to be there to capture it for Jay. If you want to follow Jay on his "road to recovery" or contribute to his care, please go to his blog at http://jaysroadtorecovery.blogspot.com/. He's an amazing guy and appreciates everyone's support.

Here are a few approved images. I'm hoping to show more in a later post.

Here are a few from Social Distortion's set. They were incredible.

And finally, meet Jay...
