09.21.15 | portraits

When I first began professionally shooting weddings about ten years ago, I had only a limited appreciation for the intrinsic value of the art that I created for my clients (and for my own family, for that matter). The imprint of a moment frozen in time, the light trailing on the lines of a loved ones face, the silent yet emotion filled image, and a picture that might become part of the family's visual heritage... an heirloom... all of these things are enveloped in this work.
Ten years later, I have witnessed loss, heartache, elation, and so much love all around me. A sea of humanity, a river of emotions, an ebb and flow of life can't really be captured... it keeps going and moves on. However, the rolling of that wave can be viscerally felt in one's memory after it recedes, triggered by a photograph, transported to a memory before it recedes again.
I'm reminded of the value of art, family, life, photography, and stopping to take a breath to let it all in.

| "Grandma" This image was created at a recent wedding as the hustle and bustle of "getting ready" was spinning all around her. The matriarch of their family sat calmly, gazing out the window of the hotel room. At 94, who knows what she was thinking as her granddaughter prepared to be married that day. I was drawn to the look in her eyes and the way the light fell on the lines of her beautiful face. |

I'm so thrilled and excited for Alisha and David's wedding taking place TOMORROW (!!) at the Smog Shoppe in Culver City. Great couple plus fabulous location should prove to be magical.
Alisha, David and I spent the morning together a while back in Venice and had such a great time. These two are fun, so connected with one another and are pretty darn stylish, too. Please take a gander at their engagement pictures and wish them a beautiful wedding day in the comments below. You're welcome to leave a comment about their engagement pictures, too. ;)
If you're getting married and are in need of a photographer who will create pictures that authentically capture the connection you share while having fun and creating pictures you will love forever... let's connect. If you're thinking about having portraits taken in the same manner, let's do it!
I can't wait to see you tomorrow, Alisha and Bear!!! :) xoxoxoxoxoxo
